Sue makes traditional and contemporary baskets made using willow grown in King’s Cliffe near her home in Cambridgeshire. She uses several varieties of willow that have been growing for a minimum of15 years. The hazel used is also locally sourced from coppiced woodland. “I love the qualities of the willow; it’s colour, strengths and texture. I also make large-scale outdoor sculpture that has a steel frame and a willow ‘skin’” She is influenced by heavy, solid forms, such as natural rock formations, and love the fluidity and movement which willow gives to the sculpture.
