The impressions Porter makes with shells and other objects are cellular, with volume and texture which find purpose and meaning on the surface of her ceramics.  The delicate edges of vessels and sculptures are articulated with a beadlike form, suggesting the growth of matter and volume.  Both conceptually and materially the ceramic pieces take on new life.  Connotations of cellular growth, a microscopic view of a moment of interaction with the material body is expressed through subtle shifts of tone and orderly grids of texture.

Drawing upon the unique landscape of Stiffkey Salt Marshes; this collection of works reflect on a sense of this special place through memories of costal walks and observations of the landscape shifting and changing through seasons.

This series is part of an ongoing exploration of Stiffkey marsh mud as a ceramic material. Collected and later processed in the studio, Ella Porter has been using the marsh mud as an addition to her ceramic glazes. The subtle hues of green/blue tint in this glaze allow the clay body to peep through beneath its surface mimicking qualities of water weaving through muddy banks of the marshy landscape. Through the alchemy of kiln firing subtle qualities of this special place are distilled and fixed within the surface of the object, and in turn the objects become a souvenir of place for the home.
