VIEWING ROOM 09
In this Viewing Room, James Evans avoids direct representation of the human body or other intuitive forms. His ceramic sculptures are animated, richly surfaced works that invite a haptic gaze — encouraging viewers to engage through a desire to touch. Shown alongside James, Claire Canisck's paintings of the sea has become more than an attempt to depict moving water encountered while wild swimming in the North Sea. It serves as a conduit for layered themes — non-self, fear, reverence, and a pervasive unease at the state of the world.
