Maria works with the dream-like world of fairy tale and narrative, including its darker and uncanny elements.
Smoke Drawing on paper. Maria’s creates an image by holding a lit candle to the surface of paper. The resulting smoke and especially the soot, transfers to the surface of the paper. As the soot marks the paper Maria quickly draws with her hands and hand-crafted tools to fashion the marks into the image she has in mind. Once burning has been completed she then returns to scratch into the surface to add detail to complete the drawing.
