Steve handcrafts sculptural vessels and practical woodware from locally sourced hardwoods. He works with a variety of materials but prefers to work with imperfect timber from fallen or storm damaged trees. He uses combinations of traditional and contemporary woodcraft skills and is continually experimenting with new ideas and techniques to create decorative and functional products for contemporary spaces.
He considers the shapes and textures found in the natural world to be strong influences as well as the effect of the passing of time on objects left in the environment, he also encompasses experiences as a graphic designer, conservationist and woodworker.
Steve's most recent work involves utilizing the natural seasoning of wood as part of the overall process to create a conversation between intended design and the unpredictable characteristics of the wood.
