Everyone who uses the roads in the UK is guaranteed to frequently encounter the 'Diversion' sign. Whenever I see the yellow Diversion road sign in the UK, my brain automatically adds the word 'neuro' to it. A bit of light-hearted self-reflection is necessary every now and then. So here it is, a quick twist put into practice.

Neurodiversity can take you in different directions. This limited edition screen print combines my own experience of neurodiversity with my love for the visual language seen on all road signage in the United Kingdom (designed late 1950s by Margaret Calvert and Jock Kinneir).

Graphic designer and printmaker, Paul Wolterink, works across a range of media and believes that anything can function as a carrier of information. His vision is based on stripping topics to their core, presenting only their essential information. His limited edition screen prints are graphic based and often driven by type. Solid vibrant colour fields, in primary and fluorescent hues, engage the viewer with what may initially feel like an aesthetic experience, but ultimately unfolds into something more profound as each work reveals its own story.

Wolterink studied traditional type and sign writing at NIMETO in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and graduated from Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht (HKU) in 1994 with a BA in Graphic Design.

He has been a visiting lecturer in Graphic Design at Norwich University of the Arts (Graphic Communication) and Utrecht School of the Arts, (HKU, Image and Media Technology).
