As we begin the last four days of Lay of The Land exhibition it is a good moment to look at the artists and makers who have captured the attention of visitors to the exhibition through their work on paper, embroidery, as well as paint on canvas or board.
The artists are: Tessa Newcomb, Paul P. Smith, Mike Dodd, Helen Derbyshire, Will Cutts, and Nessie Stonebridge. All of whom use tried and tested techniques in their chosen medium to produce their work, and yet they each achieve unconventional results.

We were in and around Halesworth in Suffolk this week and decided to drop in and see an exhibition at The Halesworth Gallery. Fliss Cary and Tracee Findlater have collaborated on their publication Something Grim. Fliss Cary’s black and white artwork, sits seamlessly alongside Tracee Findlater’s poetic text. The book provides the backbone for their part of what is actually a small group exhibition that includes work by Jack Crampton, and Sally Erb.

Introducing Norwich based artist Andrea Girling
Paul Vater, Director of Contemporary and Country by Paul Vater
    Untitled by Andrea Girling
Our forthcoming pop up exhibition, Ordinary Worlds, at Creake Abbey will show a selection of new and recent paintings and works on paper by six Norfolk artists, from 10 to 23 August, 2018. Andrea Girling studied fine art at Norwich University of the Arts and gained MA in 2016. Her practice addresses concerns relating to the increasing pace of technology and its impact on humankind. Girling’s research is a process-led (thinking through making) enquiry into the relationships and dualities of the fast and slow, machine and handmade, digital and analogue.

We are showing the work of Liz McGowan for the second time and are delighted to show works produced as part of her Will-A-Wix series. In addition we are also delighted to show more of her collaborative work completed with another Norfolk based environmental artist, Margie Britz.

Maria Pavledis is interested in the qualities of fragility and destruction both in nature and in the printmaking process itself. She explores this in her unique drawings made with fire and smoke. She works with the dream-like world of fairy tale and narrative, including its darker and uncanny elements.
