"Threads ... Traces" by ceramic artist Ella Porter
21 August, 2026
Gallery Visit: Anthony Fell Antiques and Gallery, Holt, North Norfolk
Ella Porter’s multidisciplinary practice draws on her background in painting, printmaking and ceramics. Her works reveal a sensitive dialogue between surface and form, where subtle marks, impressions and interventions capture both conscious and unconscious moments of touch. Each piece feels as though something is being uncovered rather than simply made.
Among the highlights are Porter’s evocative Soul Houses, inspired by ancient Egyptian objects created to sustain the spirits of the dead, alongside her Pipe Collections, 2024, intricate works reflecting the overlooked edges of the city and the fragments discovered there. Her use of Terracotta and slip is presented in a number of memorable pieces including "Gardens of the past and Cities of the Future II, 2023" and "Grid Brick, 2025". The Copper lustre on glazed stoneware in "Rising Tide, 2024" and "Brick Net, 2026" re quite simply delicious. On the way out of the space we spotted "After the Longest Night, 2026" created with a full range of her materials: stoneware, porcelain, glass, thread and fragments" - a real triumph
Threads and Traces closes on 28 August. Come and discover Ella’s remarkable work, meet the artist and experience the many beautiful and quietly compelling pieces in this special exhibition made possible by host Catherine Austin-Fell.

You can see more of Ella Porter's earlier work – a specially commissioned collection made for the C&C online showroom. It uses many of the same techniques as in the Holt showcase. Glazes created from muds lifted from the salt marshes of North Norfolk have given this collection a particular relevance for collectors wanting to add ceramics using materials from the region.
